Farmer jailed 1 month for concealing 9 tubers of stolen yams
A Jos Upper Area Court on Monday sentenced a farmer, Habibu Ali,40, to one month imprisonment for concealing nine tubers of stolen yam.
The presiding judges, Ghazali Adam and Hyacenth Dolnanan, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to one count of assisting to conceal the stolen items and begged the court for leniency.
The judges, however, gave the convict an option of N 10,000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat said the case was reported by the Vigilante Group of Nigeria attached to Dilimi area in Jos.
Gokwat said that the group while on patrol on May 5, around the terminus market , arrested the convict in possession of nine tubers of yam which he said were stolen by one Auwa Suleiman.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 304of the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
