FG fires back at El-Rufai, says, Buhari focuses on free, fair elections
The Federal Government on Wednesday fired back at Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, who in a media interaction on Channels television alleged that ‘some “elements” in the Presidential Villa are working against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, at a briefing after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, said that President Buhari is mainly focused on ensuring a free fair and credible elections and not to favour or cause anyone to be at a disadvantage in the 2023 general elections.
The information minister asserted that if there is anyone working against any candidate, it is officially unknown to the federal government.
The minister disputed rating of Nigeria on corruption index by Transparency International on Tuesday.
He was of the view that the government has very impressive records based on achievements by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC), among others, and is therefore not bothered about the ratings.
The minister declared that the administration’s fight against corruption is not to impress Transparency International but to engender growth in the country, politically and economically.
