Group advocates for internet access for girl-child in Bauchi, for investment opportunities

The League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), Bauchi state chapter, on Monday called for internet access and digital devices for girls to enable them key into investment opportunities in the state.

This is contained in a statement, signed by Ms Fatima Zakari, the Bauchi State chairperson of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), to mark the ”International Day of the Girl Child”.

The theme for this year’s International Day of the girl child is “Digital Generation. Our generation”.

“We are calling for equal internet access and digital devices for girls in the state to facilitate their investment potentials and opportunities.

“Digital inclusion and literacy will open new avenues to learning and yearning for the girls, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic has also deepened connectivity and safety for online users,” she said.

She canvassed support to tackle all forms of barriers and online harassment that could deny girls access to the internet.

Zakari described the girl child as change makers, instrumental and fundamental in the development of the society.

According to her, technology is a crucial tool to support their work, activism and build leadership skills of the girl child.
