How crippled bandit ran one-man kidnap ring, made millions from last ransom
Buhari Haruna is crippled, all right. But he could kidnap anybody, including the able-bodied.
His criminalities, all along, were covered with his phone repair business—the business he used as part of his mode of operation.
All of that came to the open when the Katsina police command paraded him September 20.
In August, Haruna called Hamisu Salisu, his latest victims, at Kankia, demanding N2 million—or else risk his family and his own life by killing or kidnap.
SP Isah Gmabo, the comman’s PRO, said Haruna confessed he intended to kidnap Hamisu’s father initially. The kidnapper changed the plan because the man is old and sick and hospitalized.
When the victim told the police, had an instruction to tag along with the suspect. The ransom was dropped at the location Haruna chose.
When the kidnapper showed up, the police officers laying ambush saw a slithering and crawling on his butt.
Upon interrogation, Haruna said he was a first timer. But Gambo said it was his third time.
