How the international break is turning out to be a nightmare for Liverpool
The November international break is becoming a source of headache for Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp and fans alike. An already thin squad affected by injuries to the likes of Harvey Elliott, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino is depleting even more.
Sadio Mane suffered a rib injury after a aerial challenge during Senegal’s 1-1 draw with Togo left him in pains. Senegal’s coach Aliou Cosse had said after the game that his injury was nothing serious and he was only substituted as a precautionary measure. However, X-rays showed Mane suffered a rib injury and he has since returned to Liverpool.
Another player whose fitness Liverpool are sweating over is captain Jordan Henderson. The midfielder was at the receiving end of plaudits after scoring and assisting against Albania five days ago. However, he did suffer an injury and is currently in Liverpool. He did not feature as England recorded their biggest victory, thumping 10-men San Marino 10-0.
Yesterday, Liverpool’s international break went for bad to worse as left-back, Andrew Robertson limped off as his Scottish team secured a 2-0 win over Denmark.
Liverpool may have to deal with the absence of three more important players with the likes of Firmino , Elliott and Keita still on the sidelines.
The problem is that Liverpool’s next opponent is an inform Arsenal team coming off the back of three consecutive league victories and unbeaten in their last ten games in all competitions. Liverpool have not been in a particularly good form in the league lately. Since their iconic 5-0 thumping of Manchester United at Old Trafford, the Reds have only picked up a point form their last two games, conceding a staggering five goals.
A match-up against Arsenal is always meant to be a difficult one for Liverpool. However, it will be an even bigger task for Liverpool on Saturday with many keys players on a race against time to stay fit
