ICSAN holds 49th AGM, elects first female President

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) penultimate Tuesday, June 30, held its 49th Annual General Meeting where it presented its newly elected first female President, Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo to members.

In July 2021, Funmi made history as the first female to be elected as the Vice President and Vice Chairman of the council of the institute and in March 2023, she was elected as the 29th President-Elect of the Institute.

Ekundayo has served and impacted the Institute in many ways both directly and through achievements recorded in the various Committees.

She served as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Law Union & Rock Insurance Plc. (Now Tangerine General Insurance) and she is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of some corporate entities.

Funmi Ekundayo is a Lawyer, Chartered Secretary and Administrator, Corporate Governance professional, Chartered Stockbroker and Capital Market practitioner.

She attended the Kwara State Polytechnic where she obtained her A’ Level certificate and graduated with flying colours.

She then proceeded to the University of Lagos where she obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree in 1995 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1996. She returned to the University of Lagos to pursue her master’s degree in Law, which she obtained in 1998.

Funmi’s professional and career trajectory started with her Law Office Attachment experience at the leading Law Firm of Banwo & Ighodalo. She was appointed as the Managing Director/CEO of STL Trustees Limited (then Skye Trustees Limited) in 2010.

Ekundayo is an alumna of the prestigious Harvard Business School, the Lagos Business School (Chief Executive Programme) and the IESE Business School, Barcelona Spain.

She is a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association and a member of the Ikoyi Club 1938, the Lagos Country Club, the Lagos Business School Alumni Association and the Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria.

Earlier in his remark, outgoing president of the institute, Mr. Taiwo Gbenga Owokalade advised the new administration to continue to focus on capacity enhancement of members, especially the upcoming ones, and the opportunity to participate more in richly packaged governance programmes.

He said his administration has ensure better visibility of the institute through various programmes in the media and partnership with some institutions of higher learning in the country.

“We have nurtured and sustained relationship with some institutes with whom we are in the league as leading professional institutes in Nigeria, including Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria. (ICAN), and the Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR).

He said under his administration, the issue of staff welfare has been reviewed with staff remuneration advanced to accommodate the debilitating effect of the soaring inflation and thus give workers some measure of reprieve.
