Police prepare for prevention of security threat as NLC plans protest of petrol subsidy removal
The Police High Command on Monday commenced preparations for prevention of crime and security threat as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) threatens to go on national strike on Wednesday.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, at a strategic meeting at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Monday with police managers, disclosed that the Force is preparing for any possible security threat. The IGP enjoined the police managers to double their efforts to maintain peace and security within the period. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring adequate security of protesters.
According to IGP Alkali Baba, “the police will do everything professionally possible to ensure that the nation’s peace is not threatened even as the people exercise their civic responsibilities”.
The IGP disclosed that 3,619 suspects have been arrested for participation in various crimes across the country.
The NLC had issued the Federal Government until Wednesday, May 7, to reverse the pump price or Labour will go on national strike.
