JAMB reschedules UTME for nearly 380,000 candidates affected by technical glitches
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduling of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for a total of 379,997 candidates who were affected by technical disruptions during the recently concluded examination cycle.
The rescheduling exercise began on Thursday, May 15, 2025, a day after JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed the development during a press conference held in Abuja. Prof. Oloyede revealed that the technical issues impacted a significant number of candidates across various centers, with Lagos and the southeastern region being the worst hit.
According to him, 206,610 candidates were affected in 65 centers across Lagos, while 173,387 candidates experienced issues in 92 centers situated within the Owerri examination zone, which covers the five states of the South-East.

“I sincerely apologize and take full responsibility for the inconvenience caused to the affected candidates and their families,” Prof. Oloyede stated, stressing the board’s commitment to ensuring fairness and accountability in the examination process.
Affected candidates have begun receiving notifications via SMS, informing them of their new examination dates, times, and venues. One such candidate, for example, has been rescheduled to take the exam on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 12:00 PM in a center located in the Igando area of Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State.
JAMB has advised all candidates impacted by the technical hitches to reprint their examination slips to verify their new exam details. The board assured the public that all affected candidates will be granted another opportunity to sit for the exam under improved technical conditions.
In response to the challenges, JAMB is actively investigating the root causes of the system failures and is working on implementing enhanced safeguards to prevent a recurrence in future examination cycles. The board reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity, transparency, and credibility of the UTME.
