 Kanu’s lawyers’ walk-out changes direction of trial

The DSS barred some members of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team from court Wednesday at the resumption of his trial before Justice Binta Nyako, and that made Kanu and his team unwilling to continue his defence.

The remaining lawyers inside staged a walk out.

Justice Nyako then asked if he was ready to defend himself.

Kanu objected.

And despite the Federal Government’s legal team plea with the court to proceed with the trial in the absence of Kanu’s lawyers, the judge refused.

In a brief ruling, Justice Binta Nyako expressed displeasure over the conduct of Kanu’s lawyers. She then adjourned the case till January 19, 2022, for trial.

The secessionist leader has been in the DSS detention since July he was bundled in from Kenya, after four years on the run from terrorism trial, whose bail he jumped, in 2017.
