The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Restitution and Inquiry investigating petitions on police brutality and extra-judicial killings by operatives of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police, on Friday ordered the payment of compensation in the sum of N10 million to each of two petitioners who relations were killed by the police. The panel also directed that the police officers involved in the extra-judicial killing be prosecuted.

The Judicial panel of inquiry on Friday in a petition on the death of Mrs. Kudirat Adebayo Abayomi killed by police stray bullet in April 2017, counseled for the prosecution of the police officers; as well as awarding N10 million compensation to the family of the deceased, scholarship for the children, and a letter of apology to the family of the deceased from the Nigeria Police.

The panel deciding on the second petitioner, Hannah Olugbode, a 35-year-old hairdresser, who has been on crutches after her left leg was battered by stray bullet fired by some SARS operatives around Ijeshatedo area of Surulere, Lagos, awarded N10 million compensation to her. She will be proceeding for further medical treatment.
