Legal Aid Council moves to head office Jan. 2016, says DG
The Director-General, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Mrs. Joy Bob-Manuel, says it is set to move into its head office in Abuja in January 2016.
Bob-Manuel made this known on Friday in Abuja at the council’s annual Xmas carol programme.
She said that the proposed movement would fast track the council’s activities.
The DG said the council remained committed to improving its access to justice for the less-privileged members of the society.
According to her, the movement into the office would be done in batches so as not to disrupt the operations of some branches of the council.
She said the Administration, Accounts, Servicom, Press/Public Relations Service and International Relations Departments would move in first.
The DG commended the lawyers in the council for their legal assistance to litigants, adding that without them there would be no Legal Aid Council.
“ I am hard on them because the mandate of the council borders on legal issues; without lawyers, no legal Aid Council.
“ I want you to continue doing your work well; it pays to be hard working: don’t be discouraged”, she said.
The DG assured all beneficiaries of legal services from the council of an unrelenting support in 2016 and promised lawyers new vehicles to convey litigants to court.
Bob-Manuel commended staff for their commitment and dedication to work all through 2015 and promised them adequate training in their areas of specialisations in 2016.
She said the council would seek assistance from the Budget and Planning Office, World Bank and other partners of the council to meet its needs in 2016.
Mrs. Jessica Mamven, Deputy Director, Press, said the annual Christmas carol programme was to give gratitude to God for his sustenance in 2015.
She expressed optimism that the council would advance in all its activities in 2016.
