Libyan authority arrests driver for smuggling six Nigerian women
Libyan police have intercepted a human trafficking attempt involving six Nigerian women. The suspects were apprehended in the Bishr district during a routine patrol.
The driver, who initially claimed the women were family members, was arrested along with his passengers.
According to Migrant Rescue Watch, an NGO monitoring migrant movements, the group was being smuggled into the country illegally. All individuals involved have been detained and are facing legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, in Nigeria, a middle-aged woman named Abike Olonade has been arrested for trafficking a 16-year-old student to Libyan.
The suspect, who hails from Obada Oko in Ogun State, confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The victim, whose identity has been withheld, is a student at Adeoye Lambo Secondary School.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is intensifying its efforts to combat human trafficking.
In a recent development, three survivors of human trafficking in Edo State were empowered through a skills acquisition program.
The beneficiaries, who endured various forms of exploitation before their rescue, received training in fashion and design, hairdressing, and catering.
The program aims to provide survivors with the tools they need to rebuild their lives and reduce their vulnerability to future exploitation. NAPTIP’s Commander for the Zonal office, Nduka Nwanwenene, emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting victims and preventing human trafficking.
