The Pro-Chancellor said that insecurity and other related crimes were affecting the growth of the University and society at large, hence the need to tackle them with utmost seriousness.
The National Daily reports that Luther-Agwai was inaugurated as the Chairman of the 13th Governing Council of UNICAL by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, on July 15 in Abuja.
The Pro-Chancellor told the AIG that the university community was presently ravaged with various criminal activities, which include kidnapping, robbery, land encroachment and others.
Luther-Agwai noted that the breach of peace and security was a major setback to the development and growth of the institution.
He promised to synergize with the police to curb the menace of insecurity to ensure that UNICAL takes its pride of place among universities in the country.
Responding, the AIG called on the institution to always give useful information that would help the police succeed in its onerous task of combating insecurity.
He emphasised that no society could succeed without the police, adding that the police was always combat ready to fight crime.
Gomna further said that the visit would further cement the relationship and make life more conducive for staff and students of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of UNICAL, Prof. Florence Obi, thanked the AIG for always responding to their calls whenever they needed the presence and cooperation of the police on campus.
