Man falls from 23rd floor of Cocoa House in Ibadan, investigation underway
The fall was described as “terrifying,” with witnesses saying the victim struck a rooftop near the building’s security post before hitting the ground.
Panic ensued in Ibadan’s business district on Monday morning after an unidentified man reportedly fell from one of the top floors of the iconic Cocoa House building.
Eyewitnesses suggest the man is believed to have jumped from the 23rd floor, which houses a museum within the historic 26-story structure.
The fall was described as “terrifying,” with witnesses reporting that the victim struck a rooftop near the building’s security post before hitting the ground.
His condition remains unclear, but he was immediately transported for emergency medical care.
Victor Ayetoro, Head of Branding and Communication at Odu’a Investment Company, which manages Cocoa House, confirmed the incident: “The individual involved was swiftly attended to by the emergency response team and taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for urgent medical attention.”
While an official police statement is pending, Odu’a Investment has acknowledged the occurrence and expressed deep concern.

The company has pledged its full cooperation with ongoing investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the fall.
Cocoa House, historically significant as once the tallest building in West Africa, remains a symbolic landmark in Nigeria, lending additional gravity to the shock generated by Monday’s incident.
