NAPTIP takes custody of 48 rescued victims of human trafficking.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), Kano state Command, on Tuesday said that the agency has taken custody of 48 victims of human trafficking, who were allegedly on their way to Europe.
Barr. Abdullahi Babale, the Zonal Coordinator of the command, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Tuesday.
According to him, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Jigawa Command, in collaboration with Nigerien Police in Niger Republic rescued and handed the victims over to NAPTIP.
He said that the victims who are between the ages of 14 and 30 consisted of 36 Nigerians that hailed from Anambra, Benue, Edo, Kogi, Osun, Ondo and Rivers States, also has 12 Ghanaians.
The zonal coordinator said that preliminary investigations revealed that all the victims, who were undergoing counselling in a shelter at the time of the arrest, were heading to Europe.
