NCS customs CG, Adeniyi, mourns late chief of army sStaff, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja
The Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, has expressed deep condolences over the passing of Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, describing him as a dedicated military leader. The NCS also postponed its Gala and Award Night in tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has paid tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, describing him as an astute military leader and a figure of immense dedication and sacrifice.
In a statement issued by NCS spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada, Adeniyi praised Gen. Lagbaja for his significant contributions to Nigeria’s security and inter-agency cooperation, calling his loss a major blow not only to his family and the military but to all Nigerians.
“This is a huge loss to his family, the military, the government, and indeed the entire nation,” Adeniyi stated. “Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was a leader whose dedication and contributions are immeasurable.
His passing leaves a void that will be felt deeply across the country.”
Adeniyi also extended his condolences to the late general’s family, colleagues, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, expressing sympathy on behalf of the NCS.
In honor of Lagbaja, the NCS announced the postponement of its Gala and Award Night, which was scheduled for Friday in Abuja as part of the ongoing Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Conference.

The event will now be rescheduled as the NCS joins the nation in mourning the military leader’s death.
“This decision reflects the NCS’s commitment to stand in solidarity with the nation during this period of mourning,” Adeniyi said. “We mourn the loss of a steadfast leader who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria.”
National Daily Newspaper reports that the remains of Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja arrived in Abuja on Thursday in preparation for his burial, which is set to take place on Friday. Lagbaja passed away on November 5 in Lagos after a brief illness.
