New terrorist group, Lakurawa reportedly offers financial incentives to recruit youths in Sokoto
The new suspected terrorist group, identified as “Lakurawa,” is offering as much as one million naira to young men in exchange for their allegiance, per a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama
Impeccable sources told Zagazola Makama that this group, allegedly composed of individuals from Mali, Chad, Libya, Niger and Burkina Faso are actively recruiting local youths in Sokoto through substantial financial incentives.

In a recent report by Zagazola it was noted that this financial temptation as described by various witnesses is actually a significant part of a very aggressive recruitment effort. This campaign is specifically designed to draw in new followers to their cause which is concerning for many communities in the region.
In contrast to conventional criminal gangs that operate mainly for profit and engage in typical criminal activities the Lakurawa group is said to follow extremist ideologies that are closely associated with the Khawarij sect. Their beliefs share similarities with those held by groups such as Boko Haram Sects which has created fear and instability over the years.
According to local sources it appears that the Lakurawa group uses a strategic mix of financial incentives along with strong ideological persuasion to build up their support among communities that are particularly vulnerable. This approach seems to be effective as they are able to attract individuals who may feel marginalized or in need of support in difficult times.
