Nigeria troops revolt again
Troops from the 21 Brigade of the Nigerian Army deployed to fight Boko Haram from the Sambisa Forest in Borno have gone wild as they fire gunshots all over the places.
The soldiers were said to have been bitter the way they were maltreated by their commander Col A.G. Laka.
The brigade is in Bama but the soldiers are at Bula Bello in Sambisa for Operation Rescue Final.
According to reports, the troops went wild early Friday morning, firing in all directions and threatening to pull out of the operation.
“They are saying their commanders have been treating them badly and telling them lies. As I speak to you, the firing is still going on, and there is confusion everywhere.”
The Nigerian Army is yet to issue a statement on the incident.
It appears Nigerian soldiers have found mutiny an easy way to express their grievance while the counterinsurgency campaign lasts in the northeast. More than 100 mutineers have been tried since 2014.
Many were jailed, dismissed, and sentence to death including troops from the 7 Division and GOC Maj-Gen Ahmadu Mohammed whose vehicle was shot at by soldiers angry because they lost 20 of their colleagues while obeying the last order.
