Nigeria under siege: Governors hold consultative meeting in Abuja
The intractable insecurity in the country is beginning to give the various segments government great concerns as Nigeria is under siege. The Nigerian Governors’ Forum, accordingly, held a consultative meeting in Abuja on Wednesday. The governors were said to have met behind closed doors at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday met with a delegation from two northeast states of Borno and Yobe led by the governors.
The Northern Governors Forum had met a fortnight ago to deliberate on the rising insecurity in the country and the emerging inter-ethnic hostilities certain parts of the country. The northern governors also held security meeting with the new service chiefs.
The governors are beginning to rise to the security challenges of the moment as the federal government appear to be overwhelmed.
Participants at the Wednesday meeting of governors at the State House, Abuja, include governors of Kano, Edo, Oyo, Ekiti, Imo, Sokoto, Bauchi and Niger.
The governors of Kebbi, Kano, Zamfara and Niger states had earlier gone mediation visit to Oyo State after the Shasha conflict in Ibadan.
