Nnamdi Kanu: Enugu residents comply with IPOB Sit-at-home order, roads, streets empty
The Monday sit-at-home order proclaimed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in honour of the detained and prosecuted IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has continued to gain legitimacy in southeast Nigeria. Residents of Enugu on Monday vacated the roads and streets in compliance with the IPOB weekly sit-at-home order.
Residents remained indoors, sacrificing the business of the day and waiting patiently to resume activities on Tuesday. Several residents of the city declared that their compliance with the weekly sit-at-home order by the IPOB was voluntary, indicating that they are willing to continue the compliance until the goal is achieved. They maintained that staying off businesses for one day cannot cause them any harm.
Following the compliance with the sit-at-home order on Monday, several streets, roads, markets, and banks in Enugu were locked down; economic and commercial activities were shut down.
Secondary school students taking the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations were said to be trekking long distances to their various exams venues as public transporters stayed off the roads.
