Obi denies interest in Vice Presidency, reaffirms commitment to Nigeria
Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly denied reports suggesting he expressed interest in becoming a vice-presidential candidate.
Addressing the claims on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi clarified his remarks following an interview with News Central TV, where he discussed his presidential ambitions, the Labour Party, and Nigeria’s economic challenges.
During the interview, Obi expressed his openness to collaborate with other political figures, but only if their intentions aligned with his vision for building a better Nigeria, free from “state capture.”
However, his comments were misinterpreted by some, leading to speculations that he was willing to accept a vice-presidential role under another candidate.

“I have been inundated with calls and concerns regarding the interview I granted to News Central TV… Some fifth columnists have resorted to propaganda, deliberately distorting the narrative,” Obi said in his post, debunking the rumors.
The former governor emphasized that his statement was clear and had been misrepresented by individuals seeking to spread falsehoods. He reiterated that while he remains open to collaboration, his goal is to work with those committed to the vision of advancing Nigeria, not to seek a vice-presidential role.
“My statement was unequivocal, and I am genuinely surprised by the misrepresentation of my words… I have consistently maintained that I am open to working with those committed to building a new Nigeria,” Obi stressed.
Obi, who has been vocal about his passion for Nigeria’s progress, also made it clear that his ambition is not driven by a desperation to hold office.
He affirmed that his contributions to the country’s development continue, even outside of political office, as he remains committed to improving the nation’s well-being.
“My commitment to Nigeria remains steadfast, and I even believe it is possible to contribute to its progress without occupying any office, as I am already doing,” he concluded.
