Oborevwori’s defection alters power equation towards 2027
The defection of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, in conjunction with former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the entire State Executive Council members, unto local government officials overtly moved the entire structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the beneficiary All Progressives Congress (APC).
The movement of the PDP structure to the APC has the potential of altering the power equation of the mainstream polity towards 2027 in favour of the APC, the PDP being depleted.
The defection of the governor, including members of the State House of Assembly and other stakeholders, which Oborevwori described as a “Movement” transited not just the political machine of the state, but also financial and human resources to reinforce and strengthen the APC in the buildup to the 2027 general elections.
Oborevwori, on his defection, declared @RtHonSheriff,
“Today, I, along with the entire structure of Delta State PDP from the ward to the state level, have moved en masse to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a well-attended ceremony at the Cenotaph, Asaba.

“At the event, I assured Mr. President, who was represented by the Vice President, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima GCON, that as the leader of APC in the state, the unity of our party is paramount as we work together for the best interests of the people of Delta State.
“Let me also take this opportunity to appreciate our National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, and my brother governors who came in large numbers to receive this great multitude of Deltans who are now members of the APC. This is the show of love and solidarity our country needs to foster progress.”
Oborevwori maintained that APC is not like PDP, noting: “the governor takes charge, and we are taking charge.
“I don’t believe in any faction. Everybody must queue, and we will unite this state.”
Delta has been a PDP-dominated state since 1999, but has been in the opposition in the past 10 from 2015. Now, it has been taken by the APC to increase APC presence in the South-South, already having Edo and Cross River states.
