The Nigeria Police Force has revealed how an armed robbery and murder suspect in Offa Bank Robbery died in custody on police custody.

The late suspect Micheal Adikwu, was among those arrested for their alleged roles in the April 5 bank robbery during which about 30 people were killed.

The Kwara State justice commissioner, Kamal Ajibade announced the death during the trial of five suspects on trial for the robbery.

Mr Ajibade told the judge that he was informed by the police of Mr Adikwu’s death but was not told how the suspect died.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki who was indicted in the police investigation, and indeed many Nigerians,  have since criticised the police demanding to know how the suspect died.

But in a statement by police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, on Thursday, the police said the suspect’s death does not absolve Mr Saraki of any wrongdoing.

Mr Moshood said a post-mortem report on Mr Adikwu’s cause of death is available.

“Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs was not murdered but slumped and died in detention while investigation into the Offa Bank Robbery was ongoing,” he said.

“It is also important for the public to know that the deceased Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs was not among the Five (5) gang leaders that indicted and implicated the senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, therefore, his death cannot in anyway vindicate Senator Bukola Saraki.”
