Ogun Police Boost Security at Sagamu Interchange, Crack Down on Illegal Activities
The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security operations at the Sagamu Interchange to bolster the safety of residents and commuters following concerns over criminal activities in the area.
Recent discussions on social media have raised alarms about a purported security incident on March 21, 2025.
Although no formal reports were lodged at any police station, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has taken proactive measures to address the situation, ensuring that security is reinforced at the critical transport hub.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Omolola Odutola, anipr, all trading activities along the stretch of the interchange have been officially suspended.
“We have given the traders time to move their structures and wares. Anyone found carrying out trade will be arrested and prosecuted,” CSP Odutola warned.
In a decisive move, personnel from the Quick Response Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 have been deployed to key points, including under the bridge, at the roundabouts, and along the inward and outward routes of the four intersections.

During a two-hour security assessment led by CP Ogunlowo, illegal trading activities and the presence of touts were observed at the interchange.
As a result, a comprehensive disbandment of unauthorized business operations under the bridge was immediately executed.
Additionally, security operatives discovered a criminal hideout within the surrounding bush at the interchange, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
This discovery underscores the importance of sustained police surveillance in preventing criminal elements from exploiting the interchange for illicit activities.
To further enhance security, the Commissioner of Police has engaged members of the Transport Union to redirect traffic towards well-lit and secure areas. This strategic intervention is expected to minimize security risks, especially during nighttime travel.
Despite these developments, Ogun State remains relatively peaceful, and the police command has reassured citizens of its commitment to maintaining law and order. However, residents and commuters are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid falling victim to crime.
As a precautionary measure, commuters are advised to plan their journeys early to mitigate security risks.
With an increased police presence, collaborative efforts with sister security agencies, and the continuous support of His Excellency, the Governor of Ogun State, authorities are confident in ensuring the safety of the state’s highways.
