Ogun State Government suspends monarch over public misconduct
In a bid to uphold the dignity of traditional institutions and maintain ethical leadership, the Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for a period of six months.
This decisive action comes in response to a viral video capturing the monarch engaging in conduct deemed inappropriate for a traditional ruler.
Following the circulation of the controversial video, the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, through its Honourable Commissioner, summoned both the monarch and the alleged victim for a formal interrogation.
The government deemed the monarch’s actions reckless and unbecoming of a revered traditional leader, necessitating immediate disciplinary measures.
In an official statement, the state government confirmed that after a thorough investigation, Oba Ogunjobi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of his office pending further determinations regarding his culpability in the matter.

The suspension has sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some praising the government’s swift action while others call for a more extensive probe into the incident.
Chief Adebola Fashina, a political analyst, remarked, “This decision reinforces the state government’s commitment to preserving the integrity of the traditional institution. No leader, regardless of their status, should be above the law.”
Similarly, Barrister Kemi Onifade, a legal expert specializing in chieftaincy matters, stated, “The suspension aligns with legal frameworks that allow the government to intervene in cases of misconduct by traditional rulers. The next steps will determine whether the monarch faces further legal or traditional sanctions.”
With the suspension now in effect, the Ogun State Government has assured the public of continued oversight in traditional institutions to ensure decorum and adherence to ethical leadership. Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the allegations against the monarch.
As this story unfolds, many await further developments, including whether Oba Ogunjobi will face additional punitive actions or be reinstated after the suspension period.
