One dead as fire razes several shops in Zamfara
A fire that erupted yesterday night in Gusau Central Market, the largest in the state capital of Zamfara, Nigeria, has left one person dead and numerous shops destroyed.
The fire reportedly broke out around 10PM in the market’s furniture section, engulfing several stores before firefighters arrived.
Nigerian Fire Service personnel bravely battled the flames throughout the night, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses.
However, tragically, one store owner lost their life while attempting to enter their shop and extinguish the fire themselves.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but early reports states shops have been completely destroyed, with many others suffering fire damage.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of life and the significant damage to businesses.
We are working closely with affected traders to offer support and ensure safety as we investigate the cause of this tragedy.”
