Patrol officers stop man from jumping into Lagos lagoon

A 29- year old man, Dauda Yakub was on Friday stopped from committing suicide at a lagoon in Lagos State.

According to the patrol officers who rescued him, Yakub was sitting on the concrete railing ready to jump when he was persuaded by them not to commit suicide.

“Yesterday, our officers on patrol on the 3rd Mainland Bridge prevented one Dauda Yakub (29) from jumping into the Lagoon.  He was sitting on the railing when the officer managed to persuade him from diving.  He was handed over to Adekunle Police Station for them to re -unite him with his family. Recall that last month, a young man was also prevented from jumping into the Lagos Lagoon in an apparent suicide attempt.

Officials of the Lekki Concession Company stopped him jumping into the Lagos lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi link Bridge.

Similarly in April this year, a 65-year-old man was also rescued by the police from jumping into Lagos Lagoon. The man who claimed he wanted to end his life on his birthday was rescued by officials of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command on patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The elderly man, who gave his name as Oluwatoye Bamgboye, from Oju Ore, Ogun State, was attempting to jump into the Lagos Lagoon inward Lagos Island when he was persuaded from doing so.
