Police in Niger woo residents to supply credible information on bandits
Police in Niger on Friday solicited the support of residents in the fight against banditry.
Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Ogundele Ayodeji, told members of the Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ that the security agency particularly needed credible information to confront banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling.
He said credible information on the movement of suspected criminals would pave the way to crush those terrorising people of the state.
“All forms of criminal activities will be curbed if residents volunteer credible information to the police on any suspicious person or act in their environment,’’ he said.
He stressed that newsmen particularly needed to do more in sensitising residents on the need to be security-conscious at all times.
Ayodeji explained that the engagement of vigilantes and the deployment of well-armed mobile policemen were meant to flush out bandits terrorising rural dwellers.
“We will not relent in our efforts to deal with any person or group of persons threatening the peace for which Niger is known,’’ he warned.
