Presidency 2023: Masari reveals uncertainty over Tinubu’s support
Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Sunday revealed uncertainty over his support for the presidential ambition of the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections. Governor Masari speaking in an interview on TVC on Sunday monitored by National Daily from Lagos, acknowledged the declaration for the presidential race by Tinubu, seeking the APC ticket, saying that Tinubu is eminently qualified to contest for the president of the country.
Masari, who had hosted Tinubu in Katsina during his solidarity visit to the state where he donated N50 million, however, said that there are other aspirants who have declared interest in the presidential race, adding that more aspirants are expected to declare for the race.
The governor further admitted that Tinubu contributed to the development of democracy in the country, including the development of the ruling APC, saying that those facts are there and no one can deny them. Masari, however, said that he does not know where he will end up [after all other aspirants have declared their interest in the presidential race]; implying that he is not supporting Tinubu yet.
Governor Masari responding to the question on if he supports Tinubu, stated inter alia: “Tinubu is qualified to contest for the President of the nation.
“Tinubu contributed to the development of the APC and the development of democracy as well. These facts are there and we cannot deny them.
“I cannot say where I will end up. Many more candidates are coming up.”
The Katsina State governor was not in doubt about Tinubu’s competence to be president. He also expressed support for the zoning of the president to the south in 2023 by the APC. He noted his belief in equity and justice.
