Presidency 2023: PDP organs consider unity in deciding zoning
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed that all organs of the party will be involved in deciding the zoning of the presidential and other tickets for the 2023 general elections. The party stated that the unity of the country and the feelings of Nigeria guide the PDP decision on zoning.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, had asserted that the various organs of the PDP, which include the Governors’ Forum, National Executive Committee (NEC), Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Caucus, State Excos and other organs will hold deliberations in the different zones, then, present their decisions to the national secretariat for final decision on zoning, which the NEC will ratify.
The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba had declared: “We have not got to any position on zoning. PDP is yet to take a position on zoning. We are not like the APC that thrives on lies.
“The party as of today has not taken any position on the zoning of its presidential ticket.
“And typical of the PDP processes, the party is governed by regulations and rule of law, especially, governed by the constitution of the party.
“Anybody that is qualified can show interest, but that does not mean that the party has taken a position on zoning.
“And when the decision on zoning will be taken, issues about the continued unity of Nigeria and the general well-being of everybody will be taken into consideration.
“And this is what the NEC will do… And when the party takes that position on zoning, it will have at its background the peaceful existence and unity of the country.”
An elder of the PDP, Bode George, had also stated that the issue of zoning is being deliberated among party stakeholders. George had said that the PDP will at the end make a decision on zoning that will be satisfactory to all members of the party.
Bode George noted that there are other individual requirements expected from aspirants for the PDP presidential and other election tickets for the 2023 general elections.
