Reactions as Thibaut Courtois finally responds after Atlético Madrid removed his plaque
Thibaut Courtois has taken the news headlines once again, despite making news headlines after his incredible performance in the UEFA Champions League final, which saw Real Madrid beat Liverpool, and clinch their 14th UEFA Champions League title. However, this time there seems to be a rift between him and the supporters of his former club, Atlético Madrid.
Before the game against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final, Thibaut Courtois made a controversial comment which might have angered Atlético Madrid fans. “I am now on the good side of history.” Thibaut Courtois had said, with Atlético Madrid fans seeing the comment as a dig aimed at the club, as the Belgium international was in goal for Atletico Madrid when they lost against Real Madrid in the final in Lisbon back in 2014.
Atlético Madrid Fans started requesting that Thibaut Courtois’ plaque at the Wanda Metropolitano is removed. The Real Madrid star was a legend at the club. However, Atlético Madrid fans think he is aiming a dig at the club after his comment, as Real Madrid won the Champions League. However, Thibaut Courtois has recently taken to social media and wrote “Hala Madrid”, in response to the removal of his plaque from Atlético Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano.
Fans have also taken to social media to voice their thought after Thibaut Courtois’ reaction to the removal of his plaque. The Belgium International hinted that he is not bothered by what Atlético Madrid did, as he uploaded a picture of himself posing with the UEFA champions league trophy and the MVP award. Below are some of the reactions by fans on social media;It is safe to say that Thibaut Courtois is one of the best stars in Real Madrid’s squad this season. However, Atlético Madrid seems not to be sharing in their former star’s success after his comments. Madrid mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, who is an Atletico fan, didn’t forget Courtois’ remarks after Real Madrid’s victory in Paris.” On the good side of history, it’s also us who cried with you in Lisbon,” said Martinez-Almeida.
