Reps tell Tinubu to completely remove subsidies, provide palliatives
The House of Representatives of the Nigerian National Assembly, on Thursday urged President Bola Tinubu Chamber to suspend all Direct Sales Direct Purchase (DSDP) contracts, and put an end to all forms of subsidy.
Members of the House of Representatives, after adopting the report of the House adhoc committee that investigated the subsidy regime in the country, made the resolution that the Federal Government should out rightly remove subsidies on all petroleum products.
The federal legislators, rather enjoin the President to “immediately design measures and palliatives to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal for Nigerians effective through the provision and procurement of CNG Busses as an alternative Transport System with Cheaper Fuel Consumption, as well as introduce intermodal, regional and national transport system to ease mass movement of people across the country”.
Apparently, the legislators had resolved that the President should replace subsidy with palliatives which involves expenditure by the federal government.
Meanwhile, the Ninth National Assembly is winding down for the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
