Rivers Angels celebrate title
RIVERS Angels of Port Harcourt are still basking in the euphoria of their triumph in the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL).
The club chief coach, Edwin Okon, was in high spirits after The Garden City side pipped Bayelsa Queens by the odd goal in the final game of the NWPL Super Six contest decided at Umuahia Township Stadium in Abia State capital last week.
The Port Harcourt outfit maintained a 100 percent record, winning all their matches against Nasarawa Amazons, Sunshine Queens and Bayelsa Queens respectively.
Much to the delight of the former Super Falcons coach, national team left-wing-back, Osinachi Ohale’s first-half goal was enough to hand her side their unprecedented sixth league title.
Okon said it is just the beginning of heroics from Rivers Angels, as he insists his side are in no mood to let go of the league title.
“This is our sixth league title as well as sixth FA Cup title and it’s just hard work, dedication, discipline and prayer that have seen us through to these lofty achievements.
“Of course, we are not tired to be champions; we are planning to win the title each year so no team will ever consider equaling our records.
“Right now I’m thinking of how to produce more quality grassroots players to further strengthen the team and that of the national teams,” Okon stated.
