Roma boss Jose Mourinho warns Tammy Abraham
Abraham’s goal in the 71st minute handed Roma a 2-1 victory at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Serie A, ending their three-game losing streak.
Abraham was praised by Mourinho for defeating Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, but the Portuguese manager emphasized that the former Chelsea attacker needs to contribute more to his team’s offensive efforts while they are pursuing the ball.
Mourinho reportedly told Abraham that he needed to push himself “mentally” after Roma’s victory on Monday night, according to Sky Sports Italia.
Mourinho instructed him to carry it out. When necessary, he must go above and above for the group. Even though accomplishing it is also the goal, he might have to exert more mental energy.
But Mourinho praised Abraham.
“I must admit that getting goals against Vicario was difficult, he looked like the best goalkeeper in the world,” Mourinho said following the game.
Abraham has rediscovered his best form in Italy after a season-long departure from Premier League club Chelsea.
Abraham led Roma to their first major victory since 1961 by scoring 27 goals in 53 games last season, a career high. Roma won the Europa Conference League thanks to Abraham’s efforts.
The 24-year-old was the club’s top scorer and quickly became well-liked by the local fans in the Italian city.
Abraham had said that leaving Chelsea for Roma was the “best move” of his life due to his inability to earn a berth in the starting lineup at Chelsea.
