Runsewe lauds Lalong’s contributions to golf development.

 

Chief Olusegun Runsewe, President, the Nigerian Golf Federation (NGF), has commended the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, lofty contributions toward the development of golf in the country.

Runsewe gave the commendation at the inauguration of the redesigned green 18-hole course of the Rayfield Golf Club in Jos, Plateau State, on Monday.

The NGF’s President in a statement on Monday said that Lalong’s selfless efforts in grooming the sport of golf was highly commendable.

He also appreciated the executive members of the club and the organising committee for the successful hosting of the week long tournament.

Runsewe said that the establishment of the Rayfield Golf Club led to the off-short of other notable golf courses in Plateau and other surrounding states.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of Rayfield Golf Club, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep, also commended the governor for upgrading of facilities at the Golf Club and the development of the game in the state.

Wuyep said that the redesigning and the general upgrading of the Rayfield Golf Club was possible due to the governor’s open-door policy.

He reiterated the urgent need for other golf clubs to organise more age grade golf tournaments to accommodate the youths and groom them for the future.

In his remarks, Lalong expressed delight at the unprecedented turnout of golfers from other golf clubs to the Rayfield Golf Club tournament.

He commended Runsewe for honouring the invitation to witness the commissioning of the redesigned green 18- hole course of the Rayfield Golf Club.

Lalong also stressed the need to encourage young golfers to grow and become professionals.

He called on the NGF president to introduce the aspect of Golf Tourism in the agenda of the federation while appreciating him for bringing to rest the controversy surrounding the first Golf Club in the country.

The governor noted that golf though often seen as an elite sports was a game open to all irrespective of age and gender.

Prizes ranging from flat screen televisions, gas cookers, refrigerators, water dispensers and cash prices were presented to the winners.
