Russian airstrikes take out Ukrainian military bases, record hundreds of casualty in capital
Following the declaration of special military operation in Ukraine by Russia President Vladimir Putin, videos of Ukrainians fleeing Kyiv have been circulating on social media.
And both sides are already claiming casualty figures.
Video footage has shown Russian military vehicles and troops entering Ukraine from several border points including Belarus, with reports of missile strikes and explosions heard in Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv and other cities.
The first missile strikes in Ukraine caused hundreds of casualties, while at least six people has been killed and seven others wounded in a bombing in the city of Podolsk, according to a report by Newsweek. Ukraine’s air bases and military infrastructure have reportedly been neutralized.
Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, equally said they had shot down five Russian aircraft and two helicopters.
Some world leaders across the west and Europe have condemned Putin’s decision.
And multiple sanctions are mounting against Russia as many insist they won’t intervene militarily.
