Tin Can Customs Collects ₦747bn Revenue in 6 Months

Lagos, Nigeria — July 3, 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Port Command, has reported a revenue collection of ₦747 billion in the first half of 2025, signaling a strong performance amid ongoing efforts to enhance trade facilitation and revenue generation.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, made this disclosure during a media briefing at the command headquarters in Lagos on Wednesday. According to him, the ₦747 billion collected between January and June 2025 represents a significant increase compared to the ₦670 billion generated during the same period in 2024, marking an 11.5% year-on-year growth.

“This achievement is a testament to the commitment of our officers and the effective deployment of technology to streamline cargo clearance processes, reduce delays, and curb revenue leakages,” Comptroller Nnadi said.

He attributed the performance to the implementation of improved risk management systems, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and intensified anti-smuggling operations within the command’s jurisdiction.

Tin Can Island Port remains one of Nigeria’s busiest seaports, handling a substantial volume of the country’s imports. The revenue collected contributes directly to the Federal Government’s treasury and supports national development initiatives.

In addition to revenue generation, Comptroller Nnadi noted the command’s success in enforcing compliance with trade regulations. Over the six-month period, the command recorded several high-profile seizures of contraband goods, including arms, expired pharmaceuticals, and falsely declared vehicles, all of which were intercepted through intelligence-led operations.

He assured port users and stakeholders that the command will continue to strike a balance between trade facilitation and security, in line with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the revenue figures, noting that they reflect growing confidence in Nigeria’s port system and customs administration. However, they also called for continued reforms to address lingering issues such as port congestion, inconsistent policies, and infrastructure challenges.

As the second half of the year unfolds, the Tin Can Customs Command says it is poised to surpass its annual target, driven by ongoing modernization efforts and strategic partnerships aimed at boosting trade and ensuring transparency in customs operations.
