Tinubu launches personal income tax calculator ahead of 2026 tax reforms
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled a Personal Income Tax Calculator designed to help Nigerians estimate their tax liabilities under the country’s new tax regime, which takes effect from January 1, 2026.
The president made the announcement on Thursday night through a post on his official X handle, noting that the initiative is part of efforts to promote fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness in the nation’s tax system.
Tinubu stressed that the new framework was structured to protect low-income earners while ensuring higher contributions from wealthier citizens.
“With the new tax laws I recently signed, taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy,” he wrote.
According to him, the new digital tool will enable individuals to compare their current tax payments with projected liabilities under the upcoming reforms.

“It shows clearly how these reforms protect low-income earners, ensure progressivity, and simplify compliance in order to deliver a transparent system that works for all,” Tinubu added.
Tinubu recalled that on June 26, 2025, he signed four landmark tax reform bills into law. These include: Nigeria Tax (Fair Taxation) Law; Nigeria Tax Administration Law; Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Law and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Law.
The new laws, according to the presidency, are expected to simplify tax compliance, promote equity, restore fairness, and stimulate inclusive economic growth.
Reassuring Nigerians of the benefits of the reforms, Tinubu urged citizens to have confidence in the system.
“Bet on Nigeria to work for you, your family, and your community,” he declared.
The unveiling of the calculator marks another step in the administration’s broader fiscal reforms aimed at widening the tax net while ensuring that taxation does not deepen poverty or inequality.
