Tragedy in Delta: Commercial motorcyclist takes own life after failed marriage
A commercial motorcyclist, simply identified as Papa Ejime, has reportedly taken his own life by consuming a substance suspected to be an insecticide.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning in Oghara, Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Sources close to the deceased revealed that he took the drastic step following the recent collapse of his marriage.
Reports indicate that Papa Ejime was a habitual gambler and had a history of domestic violence. Neighbors, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that he frequently assaulted his wife, particularly after losing bets.

One disturbing account recalls an incident earlier this year when the deceased allegedly punched his wife so severely that she lost some of her teeth.
According to the neighbors, Papa Ejime’s wife was the primary financial provider for the household, covering expenses such as rent, feeding, and their children’s school fees. However, unable to endure continued abuse, she eventually left the house with their children, seeking refuge elsewhere.
It was gathered that multiple efforts by the deceased to reconcile with his wife proved unsuccessful. Frustrated and unable to bring his family back, he reportedly resorted to ending his life by ingesting the toxic substance.
The incident has left the community in shock, with residents calling for increased awareness of domestic violence and mental health issues to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Authorities are yet to make an official statement on the matter, but local sources confirm that investigations are ongoing.
