As the battle for English Premier League clubs to fortify their teams rages, Manchester United are set to release one of their recently acquired stars,

Wales international Daniel James who was very close to joining Leeds United from Swansea City in January, 2019 but eventually opted for the Old Trafford club could on his way out.

The 23-year-old winger was so close with a move to Leeds that he was already at Elland Road when the transfer collapsed.

Meanwhile, if the report reaching National Daily from the Italian renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano is to be trusted, it looks like the Welshman will finally get the switch to West Yorkshire, with Romano reporting that a permanent deal is in the advanced stages of being completed before the transfer window closes this evening (31 August).

Though National Daily can confirm that nothing is sanctioned as yet, with talks ongoing over the fee and on personal terms, but Leeds are keen to finally get their man and the Red Devils are happy to let him go due to their summer arrivals.

The Old Trafford club have overseen the capturing of their long-time target Jadon Sancho was earlier in the transfer window from Borussia Dortmund, while Cristiano Ronaldo is returning to the club from Juventus.

And with Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani already at the club and competing for places in the front three, there are slimmer chances for a spot for James in the United’s starting XI going forward despite his ability to have started two of the three Red Devils first three games so far this season.

Although James may have been highly rated by United’s boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but with the Norwegian’s new array of attacking options available to him, he does not see a place for James.

And more so, the Old Trafford club could also be in need of trimming their wage bill to accommodate Ronaldo, despite the former Juventus attacker reportedly accepting a pay-cut to return to Old Trafford from Turin, when he is still set to be paid around £385,000-a-week.
