TUC commends Sanwo-Olu on N85,000 minimum wage for Lagos workers
Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Lagos State Chapter, has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for approval N85,000 Minimum Wage Lagos workers. The Congress described the approval of N85,000 minimum wage as a demonstration of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to addressing workers’ welfare.
The State TUC Chairman, Gbenga Ekundayo, and State Secretary, Aladetan Abiodun, in a joint statement on Friday, acknowledged the minimum wage pronouncement, commending the governor for recognising the need to review the current minimum wage.
“While we have taken note of the N85,000 offer, we look forward to the upcoming meeting on Monday, Oct. 21, where we will commence discussions on this important matter.
“Organised Labour remains hopeful that through constructive dialogue, we can arrive at a more robust outcome that reflects both the economic realities of Lagos and the contributions of its workers,’’ they said.

The union leaders, who expressed optimism over the upcoming discussions, said that principles of good faith, fairness, and mutual respect would guide the negotiations.
“We are ready to work collaboratively with the government to ensure that the outcome is both beneficial to the workers and sustainable for the state.
“We remain committed to ensuring that this process upholds the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
“The welfare of workers is paramount, and we trust that our engagement with the government will result in an outcome that truly reflects the value of its workforce and the need to improve their living conditions,” they said.
Sanwo-Olu had in a media interaction, disclosed that his administration would pay workers a minimum wage of N85,000 to workers in the state.
Acknowledging that this is N15,000 higher than the minimum wage approves by the federal government, Sanwo-Olu clarified that the decision is not a competition but the ability to pay.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Government pays the highest minimum wage in Nigeria at N85,000; while others, including the federal government pay N70,000 monthly.
