#TwitterBan: FG erred, supposed to sue Twitter, not ban – Falana
A renowned legal practitioner, Femi Falana, on Wednesday, said the federal government was wrong to place indefinite suspension on Twitter operations in Nigeria.
Falana, on Channels Television morning programme, Sunrise Daily, on Wednesday was of the view that in a democracy, the government cannot resort to self-help, invoking the executive powers of the state to ban Twitter.
Falana maintained that the government should have “sued Twitter if the organization refuses to respond positively to the concerns of the government”.
Falana said that the Federal Government can sue Twitter in either the United States of America (USA) or in Ghana, where the microblogging service provider has its African headquarters.
Falana maintained that the action of the government cannot be justified on any ground. He argued that “40 million Twitter subscribers in Nigeria cannot be disenfranchised over one person’s ego.”
