Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State may have on Monday given a shoot-at-sight order to security operatives in the state to tame rising insecurity in the southeast region. The Commissioner for Information in the state, Uchenna Orji, in a statement on Monday, indicated that the state government has directed all security agencies, including Ebubeagu Security Network, to kill any miscreant in possession of gun or dangerous weapon in Ebonyi State.

There were reports of security tension in Abakiliki on Monday, relaying that gunmen engaged in sporadic shootings to enforce the Monday sit-at-home order in the southeast. The gunmen were said to have disrupted commercial activities.

Some residents were said to be killed by the gunmen.

The commissioner, however, debunked the report, saying that there was no killing of any resident in any part of the state, adding that the sit-at-home order does not exist in the state.

Orji, thereafter disclosed that Governor Umahi has ordered security agencies in the state, including members of the Ebubeagu Security Network to constantly patrol the state capital and various council areas.

The information commissioner declared: “The state reiterates its unflinching commitment to the security of lives and properties of the inhabitants of the state and, therefore, directed all security agencies and Ebubeagu Security Outfit to neutralise any miscreant found with a gun and or dangerous weapon in the state.”

Orji urged residents of the state to ignore the sit-at-home order and go about their normal businesses without fear.
