The President of the Senate, Godswilol Akpabio, at an emergency closed-door session on the arrival of protesters at the National Assembly led by the Organised Labour, appointed a committee led by the Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, to address the protesters.

Protesters pull down National Assembly first gate

The protesters had on arrival pulled down the first gate of the National Assembly Complex on Wednesday in a nationwide mass action of the anti-people policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Bola Tinubu that have caused unprecedented hardship in the country. The Senate President was compelled to go for an immediate closed-door session with the lawmakers, where a three-man committee was appointed to dialogue with the protesters at the National Assembly.

Protesters storm National Assembly

The committee, comprised of Ali Ndume, Senator Ireti Kingibe and Senator Tony Nwonye, thereafter, met with the protesters at the National Assembly.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) was led by the President, Joe Ajaero; while the Trade Union Congress (TUC) was led by Festus Osifo, beside other affiliates of the Organised Labour, protesting the rash removal of subsidy from petrol without corresponding policies to ensure local production and price control. The policy has plagues Nigerians with unprecedented hardship and suffering ever experienced in the country.
