Zamfara Govt laments bandits displaced 700,000 persons
The Zamfara State Government has lamented that bandits sacked over 700,000 persons from their homes who are scattered in the several Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in each of the 14 local governments.
Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, in at a media briefing in Kaduna State, disclosed that the state has appointed emergency relief desk officers in each of the 14 local government to assist the IDPs in their respective local governments.
The commissioner also disclosed that the Humanitarian Ministry established eight centres to support the IDPs in Zamfara State.
Ibrahim Dosara acknowledged the assistance of the Humanitarian Ministry and other international donor agencies in complementing the state government intervention in periodic cash transfers of N30,000 to N40,000 to the IDPs. This, the commissioner said, was in addition to the huge funds committed to interventions by the federal government.
The commissioner said the humanitarian agencies further engaged in training some of the victims, helping them to acquire various skills including but not limited to tailoring, barbing, and pure water making.
They were also said to have provided tricycles, known as Keke-NAPEP for some victims.
