2 in court for allegedly damaging Shoprite’s door
Two men – Tunde Okunuga, 33, and John Solomon, 19 – on Thursday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly damaging a glass door of a branch of Shoprite located on Ring Road, Ibadan.
The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing charges of conspiracy, malicious damage and perjury.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that duo committed the offences on Dec. 26, 2022, about 8.41 p.m.
Amusan alleged that the defendants had, after damaging the door, made an undertaking at a Grade C Customary Court, Ibadan, to pay for the damage in installments.
The prosecutor said that the defendants failed to fulfill the undertaking.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 516, 451 and 118 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Akande, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety each in like sum.
Akande adjourned the case until April 5 for hearing.
