A county sheriff in Kentucky has been charged with murder after fatally shooting a district court judge.
Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines was arrested following the shooting incident in the Letcher County courtroom.
According to CBS News, Stines was charged with one count of first-degree murder.
The shooting occurred after a disagreement between Judge Kevin Mullins and Stines in the sheriff’s office.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed the incident in a social media post, expressing sorrow and praying for a better future.
Gun violence remains a prevalent issue in the United States, with recent incidents including a mass shooting in Kentucky that injured five people.

Meanwhile, disgraced Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has entered a not-guilty plea to a new accusation of sex crimes in New York.
Weinstein, who underwent emergency heart surgery recently, appeared in court in a wheelchair.
He was charged with a new crime for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a Manhattan hotel in 2006.
