FRSC to arrest, fine motorists for over-speeding
By KINGSLEY CHUKWUKA, Jos
FEDERAL Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Pankshin, Plateau State, has threatened to arrest and fine any motorist caught for over speeding or carrying overload on the roads.
Mr. Ikeh Akabogu, FRSC Unit Commander, Pankshin Zonal Command, made the threat during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the zonal office in Pankshin.
Akabogu, who lamented the rate of deaths that occur on the roads as a result of incessant accidents mostly due to over-speeding and over-loading, said, “enough is enough of the waste of innocent lives. ”
“This is the more reason why the Federal Government has initiated the Speed Limiter Devices meant to regulate the speed of motorists and save the lives of innocent Nigerians”.
“The present government does not want anybody to die and so those who don’t want to die should key into the speed limiter devices”, he admonished.

According to him, “life has no duplicate; once it is lost it can’t be regain, therefore there is need for people to key to the new safety policy of the government to save lives”.
He said FRSC would embark of intense public enlightenment of the devices but blamed some of the accidents on our roads to over loading, which he said “more lives are lost than when it were a normal capacity”.
The unit commander called on commuters to always endeavour to report any driver that over speeds on the road to security personnel and refused to join any vehicles that intends to carry overload. On drivers’ license and vehicle particulars, Akabogu, charged motorists to ensure they get theirs from the appropriate authorities so not to get fake ones and get arrested by his men on the roads.
Contributing, Mr Dabit Timothy, Assistant Prison Controller, Nigeria Prison Service (NPS), called on uniform personnel to show a good example by obeying the rules and regulations of the government.
“If we are enforcing the law, we should be seen to be compliant to have the courage to talk to the civilians especially in the area of driver’s license and vehicle particulars”, he said.
