2023: Omokri distances himself from Jonathan ahead of defection
It was in an angry, holier-than-thou response, but Reno Omokri made his point clear.
“I am not Femi Fani-Kayode,” he tweeted when Wazobia FM On-Air-Personality known as Yaw prodded him on Twitter for his response if his former boss and President Goodluck Jonathan defects to APC to contest the 2023 presidency.
Rumour is thick with the possibilities of the PDP leader defecting.
“I urge you, your radio station, and the general Nigerian public not to be emotionally agitated. Don’t be excitable. Be rational. Put things into proper perspective. Study my past. Am I or am I not a stable person?”
While reeling out his pedigree—late justice father, his own integrity whie he served as Joathan’s media aide for four years, and how much he wants his own children to be proud of him—Omokri insisted Jonathan won’t join the APC.
“And even if he does, I will NOT go with him. But he won’t.”
Reno’s decision to be different followed that of Jonathan’s godson Rivers Gov. Nyesom Wike.
The National Daily reported how Wike told the BBC Pidgin Service he wouldn’t play ethnic politics if Jonathan defects to the APC.
Jonathan has never declared his intention to return to active politics or join the APC.
