2026 WCQ: Super Eagles eye top spot in Group C ahead of South Africa clash

Nigeria will go top of Group C in their 2026 World Cup qualifying series with a win over South Africa on Friday night.

The Super Eagles, who were absent at the 2022 edition in Qatar, have recorded two draws in their first two fixtures.

Ahead of the clash with Bafana Bafana, the three-time African champions are sitting in fourth position.

This follows Benin Republic’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda on Thursday.

Rwanda’s failure to get something out of the game is, however, a blessing in disguise for the Eagles, who must beat South Africa to take full advantage of the result.

A win for Nigeria against Hugo Broos’ men will take them to the top of the table with five points, one ahead of Rwanda, who have been at the top with four points since beating South Africa in their second game of the series.

After facing Bafana Bafana today, Finidi George’s men have another tricky test against Benin Republic on Monday while South Africa will play Zimbabwe.
